The boys advance to the next round of the FFA Cup with a magnificent and thrilling 2-1 victory over FC Clifton Hills.
The first goal came in the 23rd minute when a ball from Steve McCrae split the defenders, seeing Abraham Kuol break through 1 on 1 with the keeper, a cheeky dink and a great finish to see us take the lead.
The intensity rose, and Clifton Hill scored in the 37th minute from a well placed shot into the top corner.
The teams went into half time with the score 1-1 and Clifton Hill having their best passages of play heading into the second half.
The boys then retook the ascendency and started playing some good football.
Enter Arash Sadeghi.
After his first corner was headed away by the first defender, the second corner, whipped in at just the right height, beat the defenders, over the keeper and nestled into the back of the net for what was a worldie of a second goal.
Sniffing victory, the Monbulk boys continued to press and create chances, with a couple saved by the keeper and 1 ruled out for offside. The score line could’ve easily been 4 or 5-1 but alas, ended 2-1 on the final whistle to see this fairytale cup run continue on for 1 more match!
